Maya Moravec was born in Guatemala and adopted as a baby by a worldly mixed race couple. Maya was raised in Chicago with her younger sister who was also adopted from Guatemala. This made for many a confused TSA worker who couldn’t piece a multiracial family like Maya’s together as they traveled around the world together.
She discovered her passion for storytelling through watching classic movies with her family and traveling with them to over 60 countries (favorites include Morocco and Namibia).
Maya has had an extensive amount of training at prestigious performing arts institutions beyond NYU such as Second City, The Actor’s Studio in Chicago, Stagedoor Manor, and USC’s Dramatic Arts Program.
Maya graduated with her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Dramatic Arts with a major in Drama and double-minor in film production and BEMT (Business of Music, Entertainment, and Technology). At NYU she held leadership roles over several years in the associations Artists in Action and the Stern Tisch Entertainment Business Association.
Maya trained at the Experimental Theater Wing and Stonestreet Studios. She completed her training at the Atlantic School of acting where she was featured in Ike Holter’s Exit Strategy and completed her Throughline thesis on Albee’s Martha from Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Over the pandemic, Maya focused on developing herself as a writer and producer. After being mentored by Ramfis Myrthil at Beast of the East Productions, she launched her producing career by co-founding One & Other Productions with Izzie Nadah. The company is currently working on 16 projects and has a 12+ person team. Maya’s first produced project was featured as part of the Cannes Film Festival’s SFC and most recently, the company produced Francesca Scorsese’s latest film.
Maya is committed to creating opportunities and reflections for those who, like her, saw and still see an insufficient amount of representation in the entertainment industry they can identify with. Her unique background and experiences bring a nuanced perspective to whatever room she finds herself in. Maya has a fascination with eggs on a literal, artistic and metaphorical level.
